It was their third day in Paris. In the rented apartment where Nadine and Dmitry stayed while visiting Nadine’s relatives, Dmitry cooked breakfast as Nadine slept. They met through friends years ago but did not really connect until they rediscovered each other on Facebook. That connection, they later found out, turned out to be something really special as on that particular morning, Dmitry was going to ask her the important question.
Dmitry had it all planned. He placed the ring in a bowl, placed it on the table, and covered it with a napkin. Unbeknownst to him, while he was preoccupied with creating the perfect setting, Nadine walked into the kitchen and grabbed the bowl where the ring was hidden. She saw the ring. And the rest is history.
It was such a pleasure documenting Nadine and Dmitry’s wedding day and meeting their families. Weddings are not just for the couple getting married. It’s also about two families uniting to form a new one. Watching families come together to support the couple was a great experience indeed. Not to mention that it’s a Cambodian wedding ceremony. Though Nadine and Dmitry’s version was a shortened one --- they had to combine all five parts in four hours as opposed to the traditional three days --- we had so much fun learning about the Khmer culture and even sampling some of their delicious cuisines. Here are a few photos from their day!
